Clay pick up lines and a Greek Version of the Soup Nazi Category

Just got back from the NCECA conference in Pittsburgh...
(National Council for Education of the Ceramic Arts..
for those of y’all not in the clay know...)

So...I went with two other people from North Central College....my friend Chrissy, the full time ceramics professor there.....who I’ve known for 7 years...evidently...didn’t realize that until this weekend...and a graduating senior student in ceramics/art education major named Katie....

It was great running into people you know, meeting new people, (ie...Networking), hearing great lectures, critiquing bad ones and seeing and experiencing new art on exhibit...and eventually critiquing that as well....and doing that in the company of friends...

Highlights from the trip....

  • snow on the drive there so we missed the opening speakers/ceremony...

  • Walking through maybe a not nice neigborhood in town....trying to get to the Mattress Factory...Pittsburgh has FANTASTIC signs...I am serious....every town should have signs with arrows so you know where you’re going...it was a total highlight....hey baby....you got that mad look on your face...like you don’t wanna be doing this. And then walking back to downtown with some great ladies we met at the museum....and seeing really fabulous federal and colonial style architecture...at least what I think was federal and colonial style...I could be wrong...and some great stained glass...Oh...and getting really horrible blisters from said walk....and did I mention it was uphill????

  • horrible food options including a Greek version of the soup nazi last night.horrible service...white vinegar watered down iceberg lettuce ONLY in a greek salad????, when I asked if they took credit cards he said yes....only for when I went to pay he said no.....not enough pita for the hummus......he was a crabby version of the soup nazi but without a killer lentil soup to go with it.....yet, at the same time a bit amusing for how HORRIBLE our dinner experience was...Recovering from said horrible experience at the Martini bar....good band...with a rather cute waiter to look at....

  • Running into my old iron buddy afterwards...and he’s moving back to Chi-town!!!

  • MY FAVORITE PICK UP LINE....at a different bar last night...overhearing boy tells girl...."hey...when I finish building my kiln, you can come up and help me fire it..."
